Lindsay's travel continues today, heading westward from Chicago out towards the great Frontier. Her destination provides Lindsay a chance to indulge in a renowned scenic wonderland and wintersports haven. This area, surrounded by beautiful mountains adjacent to the idyllic Blue River, survived the threat of becoming a ghost town thanks its appeal and savvy marketing as a winter sport destination. A huge tourism boost in the mid-60's helped resurrect the town, thanks in part to this town's installation of the world's first high-speed quad chairlift which allowed them to transport 2,800 skiers per hour, essentially starting the industry's high-speed quad revolution. While a number of other well-known winter-related breakthroughs have helped define the modern understanding of this town, perhaps the biggest breakthrough in its history was the discovery on Gold! in the summer of 1859. During its time as a mining entity, this small town of 3,535 current full-time residents has produced over 68,000 lbs. of Gold! (That's over 19 lbs of Gold! per current full-time resident!) Perhaps the most notable find was "Tom's Baby", a 13.5 pound Gold! nugget discovered near this town by local miners Tom Graves and Harry Lytton. Perhaps Lindsay will get a chance to find a nugget on this trip, but if not, at least she can enjoy the views. Do you know "Where in the U.S.A. is Lindsay?"
